i’ve just left high school and throughout the past two years several teachers commented on how cocky i am. i’ve always been confident but there’s a thin line between being self-confident and being an arrogant know-it-all. at times i have found this line. i need to cross it permanently and never look back. i don’t even realise when i am being arrogant so maybe i need to take more notice of what is coming out of my mouth. or my body language, because hey, maybe standing there with my hands on my hips isn’t 100% ‘approachable’.
my catchphrase is ‘i’m not being arrogant, but i am better than you’. just kidding. i’m not that bad. hopefully.

people wont love that I am going to say this, but dont worry too much about this. First, just reading what you wrote I can see your heart and head are not in a bad place, so you are likely a little obnoxious sometimes perhaps (just a guess) but I doubt the fault is a major character flaw.
Second, maturity will change a lot of this for you. The bravado of youth is a fact of life. Dont be hurtful to people, no excuse for that young or old, but please know that you will mellow with age – most likely. It all balances with experience in life.
And third, refine that “arrogance” and recognize that it will sometimes be the survival skill you mix with knowledge to get you to good places. No one is going to hand you the ticket to the front of the line, sometimes you just have to take it! I have worked my butt off for years to get to a good place in a major e-commerce company in the U.S and a lot of that inflated self assurance got me to where I am. Sorry to the passive types, but its true. Yes you have to be smart so study and build the brain bank up- but you have to be a survivor in the shark tank sometimes. I know people thought I was “cocky” sometimes as well, and perhaps some still do, but they also saw me as a leader, and they followed me. And it has been a joy to lead people to success. My “moxie” and my grandfather put it, helped me get a lot of amazing opportunities.
And last, remember these words: Be careful whose feet you step on on your way up, they will be attached to the ass you kiss on your way back down.
Now go; be kind, be smart, be savvy, be you.
