I have studied French at university level, had a French boyfriend and I am now living and working in France. My advice is to move to the country, try to surround yourself with the language; Watch dvds with english subtitles, read news articles online, listen to music in French…anything you can to maximise your exposure to French. And practice at EVERY opportunity. Don’t be scared of making mistakes, most French people will be overwhelmed that you have made the effort and be more than willing to help.
