Haggis

Bedhead2 Is celebrating MOON AVATAR WEEK a little early!

Ok

Haggis from a naturally raised animal (i.e. not factory farmed), it sounds like it could be a good thing to have every once and a while.

gottawonder Loves her tortoise!

Haven't tried many of these.

Anchovies? no likee.
Blue cheese? No.
Tofu? Depends how it’s cooked.
Haggis? Unwilling to try this.
Miso? Haven’t tried.
Pickles? Yes, and not just cucumbers. Onions, beets, and peppers, eggs..many pickled things are yummy.
Sauerkraut? Yes.
Liverwurst? Not sure. Can’t remember if I’ve had this. I have tried blood sausage, two different ways. White and dark. I liked the white version.
Kefir? Haven’t tried.
Natto? Haven’t tried.
Lima beans? Used to be my favorite thing as a kid.
Beets? Love them, either in borscht, or just cooked, or pickled.
Caviar? Haven’t tried.
Eel? Haven’t tried.
Whiskey? I can’t really taste it, it just feels alcohol-ee and burn-ee. I like the liquers, or wine. Not a big alcohol person in general.

This response

made me chuckle! I didn’t manage to include a single thing on the list that you’ve tried!

Ok, special question just for Amara: What is the food with the most unusual flavor that you’ve tried? Did you like it? What did it taste like?

you would get along quite well with this gentleman! ;-)

speaking of anchovies

Plain I don’t care much for them, but I use them in cooking often. Chopped fine they are quite flavor enhancing for bread dips, and sauces of various sorts. If I’m making a spicy sauce, I like to use anchovy to make the whole thing a little edgy.

I had a friend from China

who told me about those, LOL! But then, she said she thought we were weird for eating salad. A big plate of uncooked vegetables? Disgusting! ;-D

A Staggering Rat of Heartbreaking Something or Other "I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner..."

Hard cooked eggs hidden inside things are an abomination.

It is a surprise of the nastiest order to find eggs, thousand-year or otherwise, buried in lasagna or moon-cakes or potato salad. I suppose fans of that kind of potato salad will come after me with pitchforks.

Balut is another abomination. And corn dogs. Corn dogs, nasty sulphuric boiled eggs buried in things and balut – to the devil with them, I say.

Todd Schoonover is rehashing old avatars

Balut

After watching them eat it on Survivor, I had to try balut myself when I was on the Big Island. I had seen it while traveling with Mr. Tikini, and then drove back there the next day to buy it. It tasted as I expected, and I’ll never have to eat it again.

I do eat the occasional corn dog, and I do like boiled eggs in my potato salad though I prefer it in a proper egg salad. I suppose the fact that I want mustard in my potato salad (and sweet pickles) will also make you rebel against me?

A Staggering Rat of Heartbreaking Something or Other "I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner..."

I nearly pushed you out the window

upon hearing the word mustard, but pulled you back in when you said sweet pickles.

I’m sure we’ll share a proper haggis some day, too, perhaps accompanied by a shamrock shake.

TG

I'll pass on the haggis,

but I share your feelings regarding that nasty M- word “food” that so many deluded people seem to enjoy ;)

Todd Schoonover is rehashing old avatars

The M Word

Growing up around the Amish, they always use mustard in their salads. Besides the sweet pickles, my potato salad usually includes celery and carrots too, but no raw onion for me thank you.

Hmm, does Shamrock shake go well with Haggis? Could we use it as a dipping sauce?

Smell

I love the smell of roasting sauerkraut. Put some swiss cheese on it on top of some corned beef on rye and baking it in the oven for a delicious Rueben.

Yes,

Canadian bacon and sauerkraut pizza is a specialty of one of our local pizzerias, and it’s actually quite good. Otherwise I’m not a big fan, though a little bit on a Reuben sandwich is OK.

The poor haggis

is perpetually maligned.

an even greater shame, and with a Scots accent

TG

I DO like corndogs :)

Pop that puppy on a bed of tortilla chips and smother the whole thing in chili and cheddar cheese- it’s a heart attack in a single serving but it’s good!

Epic Sunshine Bleak Mid-Winter, Holst, followed by Appalachian SPRING, Copland.

Corndog!

Anchovies? You BETCHA!

Blue cheese? You BETCHA!

Tofu? It takes on great tastes, so if experimenting….well SURE!

Haggis? Not yet, but you Betcha!

Miso? Sure, you Betcha!

Pickles? Jalapenos, eggs, cukes, sweet and dill, all!

Sauerkraut? yup, and eh

Corn dog. The new Palin. Go Michele, Go! A footlong of freedom!

Now I'm hungry

Anchovies? Only in ceasar salad
Blue cheese? Love!
Tofu? Yes, if it’s prepared properly.
Haggis? Never heard of haggis until this post. Just googled it and it looks kind of disgusting, but I’d give it a try because sometimes the ugliest foods are the tastiest.
Miso? Miso soup… Oooo, yum…
Pickles? Love!
Sauerkraut? Adore!
Liverwurst? Yum!
Kefir? Sure, not the best thing in the world but not the worst either.
Natto? Again: never heard of it. Looking it up now. Wow… hmm… that looks… slimy. Um… shudder I think I’d try it if the smell wasn’t overwhelming, because I do like soy beans and have never been disappointed by Japanese food. But that looks positively disturbing, so I’m making no promises.
Lima beans?
Beets? Yep. Love ‘em.
Caviar? Never actually tried it, but it’s definitely on the list
Eel? Had eel sushi once and it was fabulous. The thought of eating eel is a little unsettling, but the tastiness of it helped me get over it…
Whiskey? I’ve got to agree with Troeg about the airplane fuel.

Artemis Im baaaaaack
