‘Marijuana is a part of American culture. Over 65 million Americans use it either occasionally or regularly. However, social acceptance has not led to a reduction of penalties for its use. Nearly 800,000 users get arrested each year! In the last thirty years, over 10 million Americans have been arrested on Marijuana charges. In some cases, people are serving up to thirty years for simple possession!
Every year, thousands of marijuana cases are prosecuted for political reasons. Politicians use the marijuana issue to scare the voters. Marijuana prohibition has even reached presidential politics. Clinton swore that he “smoked but didn’t inhale”. Society has a better chance of controlling behavior using civil regulation than banning it and removing it for regulatory control. Although the scientific community is divided over whether the herb does have negative health effects, opponents maintain that until absolute certainty of its benign nature is established, marijuana should be banned. They don’t ask, is the cure worse than the problem?’ ~~ Ed Rosenthal
And what’s up with this new evidence that second hand smoke from cigarettes cause breast cancer? And it’s still legal!!!

...I totally agree that there is a real double-standard as to how pot and alcohol/tobacco are treated legally.
Right on! I feel that there isn’t enough emphases placed on this topic in this countries current, or prior administrations. The last U.S. President who truly understood the reasoning behind decriminalizing marijuana was Jimmy Carter. President Carter was on the verge of turning things around in this country and saving the U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars. Unfortunately, Ronlad Regan and his “Just Say No” campaign grouped pot into a list of illicit and dangerous drugs making no distinction between it and heroin or cocaine. This set marijuana reform back in a major way, brainwashing millions of Americans into thinking that marijuana was as bad, if not worse than other drugs. Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that this country needs some form of drug control. Removing marijuana from the spotlight and allowing lawful citizens to partake in recreational use of this harmless herb is a necessary first step in stabilizing this countries drug war. This would allow our law enforcement the means to proceed unimpeded by the otherwise lawful and productive citizens who are doing nothing more than enjoying a smoke in the privacy of their homes.
