Visit Hong Kong (read all 3 entries…)
DONE

We just came back from Hong Kong this morning. It was a really really great long weekend! We arrived on Friday afternoon, took the airport shuttle to the hotel. Relaxed a bit and then went out to explore the area (we were staying at Kowloon), walked in the Harbour, Nathan Road and around. The next day we took the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong park (it’s a really good attraction), Botanic Garden, Hollywood street with the temple, Queen street and finally the peak tram to Victoria Peak (lots of waiting in the queue). What an amazing view of the city from there! Next day we bought the Octopus card and took the metro to Lantau island, then the 25 minutes cable car ride to the giant Buddha. Wow, that was really amazing! So beautiful nature below us! The Giant Buddha and the village next to it is such a pretty sight, loved being there. When we got back we walked around in Citygate Outlet Mall, not so great as expected, no big discounts at all. On the third and last day we did the most things, had to see everything as it was our last day. We went to see the Nunnery and the garden near Diamond Hill Metro station, very very beautiful, a must see, then went to the 10000 Buddhas monastery. First we took the wrong way and ended up at another monastery, but finally found what we were looking for. Immediately got cheated by fake monks, but we didn’t know that time they are fake, the warning is only written up at the monastery. But the monastery itself is amazing, I really enjoyed seeing all these buddhist sites. After that we went to Hong Kong Island again, took the double decker bus to Stanley Market, not so interesting, so we left quick, went to Repulse Bay, good beach and then as it was getting late we went to the Ocean Park. Here they have an aquarium, a Panda sanctuary (2 pandas actually, but so cute, I would have loved to cuddle them) and again an amazing cable car ride and some fun fair things and family entertainment. Unfortunately we missed the dolphin shows as we arrived late, but we could still see everything we wanted. And finally, back to Kowloon and did a bargain shopping at Ladies Market, it was really fun! Back to the hotel, fortunately we could still have a shower even after checking out, then a walk around the hotel and eating in a pizzaria bar, and finally we took the taxi back to the airport. I regret that we couldn’t see Macau, but there are so many things to see in Hong Kong, that there was just no time. But to sum up, we had a great time and I am happy we visited Hong Kong.
