Even tho’ you’ve seen it in movies & on TV and online – the size is amazing! People marvel at the pyramids – this is on a different scale. It’s 5000 miles of HUGE stone blocks built to fit perfectly – over rolling mountains. And the day we were there it was -20 degrees Celcius. With four layers of thermal clothes and Arctic-wear jackets – we still could feel the cold (my son was convinced he was going to lose his toes to frostbite). How did they build in those temperatures? Next time (yes – I’d go back), I’ll go in summer and stay longer and see it at different points. We were at Badaling – close to Beijing. But there are beautiful full day hikes further on. Don’t miss it!
