bike a century (read all 12 entries…)
I'm getting my trainer next week

so I can continue riding my bike indoors during the winter. I’m trying to decide whether or not I should count this goal done should I achieve a century on my trainer. My gut tells me it shouldn’t count because it doesn’t take into consideration real life factors such as wind and terrain. But I”m interested in what the other cyclists here would say…

Comments:

I never ride my bike indoors so I shouldn’t really have any opinion. But to me it seems like a completely different thing. Not because “real” riding is more difficult (actually, in my opinion riding on a trainer would be more challenging! what do you look at for all those hours?), but because it’s a different experience (and I think more fun).

So my opinion is that you should do both and you will have two different achievements :)

I wish we could ride year round

but in Alaska it’s just not possible. :) I could do both. I hope to enter the Fireweed 400 race next summer in the 100 mile category.

joie de vivre here only intermittantly

riding on a trainer vs outdoors

it’s like masturbation is to making love with your sweetie – it takes care of a certain physical need, but isn’t the Real Thing.

Gulp

I’m not going to be able to bike without THAT running through my mind now. :)
