Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Do NaNoWriMo
No idea

I signed up for this about 3 years ago and barely got into it. I never seem to get anything down because I edit while I’m creating and get too hung up on quality. I think this will really help me just write, but I only have a week to go and I haven’t even thought about a plot, outline, characters or anything. I don’t know if I’m leaving it too late. Also, I don’t know what happens with the content – if it’s read by anyone at NaNoWriMo, because if I write something terrible, I sure hope not! :/

Any thoughts / suggestions / tips from fellow WriMos are most welcome :)

Same Here

I signed up for this a few years back and never wrote a single word because I didn’t have a plot in mind. I’ve got an idea for this year but I haven’t signed up for it yet.

By the way, welcome back. I think it’s awesome that you’re doing 116 things here on 43Things right now.

Thanks :)

Pleased to be back :) And it’s pretty cool I have 116 things – I have now marked “have more than 43 things” as completed (along with “get suspended”), so I’m seeing the silver lining :D

Hopefully, my profile will be sorted soon – I’m not wanting to fix it too much myself because the development team are working on restoring it to its former glory (??)...

So, do you think you will sign up for NaNoWriMo this year?

Yes, I’m planning on signing up for it later this weekend. I don’t know if I’ll complete it or not, but I’m going to give it a shot.

Hyacinth Girl You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.

... how are you able to have 116 things? That’s pretty neat!

It’s a glitch, I think, from when my account was reinstated. It’s kind of cool, but I think I will like it better when all is normal again, to be honest :)
