Not a Plant-proof Window Sill

The Egman and I came home to find the aloe plant upside down in the sink and dirt AAAAAAAALL over the counter, sink, and faucet. This is the second time that poor plant has taken a nose dive off the window sill above the sink. Which is weird because the sill is a good 8 inches deep! The Egman thinks it needs a bigger pot. He’s probably right, as the plant is about 8 times bigger than when I brought it home 5 months ago. It suffered some bruises and a considerable loss of dirt this time around. I’ll get a bigger pot when we go to the hardware store later this week, and for now I moved the shades so I could slide the poor thing closer to the window so it (hopefully) can’t fall off again.

Don't overpot

Aloes like to feel crowded; they naturally grow in rocky terrain, so they get unhappy if you put them into a giant pot with lots of loose soil. Just go up one size and let it get used to that.

I see

Thank you for the advice. I’m repotting tonight. The pot my husband got is fairly large, so I’ll move another of my plants into that one and use the smaller one for the aloe.

The pot it’s in now is only about half cup size. The aloe fit very nicely in it when I got it, but now it’s almost 3 times as high and 4 times as wide as it’s starting size, and it’s just too top heavy for its own good.

Bee Sage has gotten 2 cheers on this entry.
