Let's just forget that

four unrelated women have stepped forward to bring up prior accusations of sexual harassment, and forget the fact that one of the accuser’s former boyfriend has corroborated her story of meeting Cain, which contradicts Cain’s earlier statements that he had ever met her, and her former boyfriend also confirms that after she met with Cain privately that she was visibly upset about the meeting stating that Cain had touched her inappropriately…

How could anyone believe this person is capable of being President after watching him in this interview answer a question about Obama’s handling of Libya:

This interview came after he suggested in a magazine interview that most American Muslims were extremists.

From the article:

Asked by an interviewer for GQ Magazine why he feels that way, Mr. Cain said it was because a “Muslim voice” he knows – who he wouldn’t name – told him it was true.

“There are peaceful Muslims,” Mr. Cain explains, “and there are extremists.”

He added: “I have had one very well-known Muslim voice say to me directly that a majority of Muslims share the extremist views.”

Pressed on whether he believes that is true, Mr. Cain says he believes his anonymous acquaintance is correct because “that’s his community. I can’t tell you his name, but he is a very prominent voice in the Muslim community, and he said that.”

“I find it hard to believe,” Mr. Cain says.

GQ then asked, “But you’re believing it?”

“Yes,” Mr. Cain replied. “Because of the respect that I have for this individual. Because when he told me this, he said he wouldn’t want to be quoted or identified as having said that.”

Pizza = Vegetable

Did you hear the latest? House Republicans are ramming through legislation this week to classify pizza as a “vegetable” for the purpose of school lunches.

Why? Because a massive lobbying effort of Republican lawmakers by the frozen pizza industry, among other corporate interests, is underway to get around Obama Administration guidelines to make school lunches contain healthier options.

In this Republican Congress, almost anything is up for sale to the highest bidder and most powerful lobbyists – including the literal definition of the word “vegetable” – and this time, it’s coming at the expense of our kids’ health.

School lunches are hard to change—and it doesn’t take a doozy like “pizza is a vegetable” to know that the corporate interests have more money and more Washington lobbyists than kids do. That’s why pizza was classified as a vegetable during the Bush years. The Obama administration made that common-sense change, but the Republican Congress wants to take us back to the money-for-influence status quo.

If you think this is as ridiculous as I do, tell the GOP that it’s time they started picking real people over corporations (and real vegetables over slices of pizza, for that matter):

If they

were saying that pizza was a fruit, I might be on board, but calling it a vegetable? That’s just silly. Even my three-year-old knows that a tomato is a fruit and not a vegetable.

Hahhahaha!!

Not the

crappy pizza they serve at public schools.

Thanks for the link, Todd.

As you point out, it’s a shame that the whole point of stricter school lunch rules was to address obesity, and thanks to House Republicans putting corporate interests ahead of people, it’s as if they were saying the health of our children is not as important as the health of corporate profits.

And of course, the Daily Show had a humorous look at all this: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-november-16-2011/superbad

The ironic part of this is that this legislation passed but in the meantime, the US is facing $1.2 trillion in painful cuts in medicare and other programs if Congress can’t reach agreement by next Wednesday. Yet somehow the House Republicans were able to push the pizza is vegetable legislation through. Of course, the major roadblock in the deficit/debt ceiling discussions is that the House Republicans wont agree to raise taxes on the rich to reduce our deficit.

In the meantime, Republicans in the Super Committee have come up with a proposal to eliminate major tax breaks such as home mortgage interest and charity contributions. The proposal plans help people to offset the loss of deductions by reducing the tax rates, but the top tax rate changes from 35% to 28% and the bottom tax rate changes from 10% to 8%. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the rich are getting the biggest benefit, and losers including the ever-shrinking middle class whose deductions can make a significant impact on their taxes. Just as an example, it would not be uncommon for a middle income household to use up 1/3 of their income for housing costs, a good proportion of that is their mortgage, but I would doubt that the super rich would use up a 1/3 of their income for housing. Also, big losers of this plan would be people pursuing their American dream of owning their own home and would benefit from a home mortgage interest deduction as an incentive to buy a home… and charities who may find reduced giving if people are not able to deduct their donations from their taxes.

Wish we could claim our mortgage interest.

That would be a nice tax deduction for Canadians. ;)

Those Republicans are something else, they know how to look after the 1% grrrr….
