Until very recently, it was my favorite animated movie. It was released in 1989 when my daughter was only 2 years old and came out on video a year later. It was the first Video I ever bought new along with our first VCR. Everyone always talks about it being the first movie of The Disney Renausance. I only know that it is the first Disney film made in more then 2 decades that features principal characters who aren’t furry, cuddly animals. It also had great scripts and great songs. The heroine Ariel had depth and came from a different mold then all previous Disney heroines or princesses. She didn’t sing about her prince coming to save her but sang about making her own mark on the world.
