In my last post I was trying to choose between the TNG Inline or Spearhead ocarinas. This debate went on long enough that a third contender entered the ring, the Focalink 12 hole potato Alto C.
I love the sound of the Focalink; it’s a lot clearer then the TNG ocarinas although perhaps there’s less personality. Still, better for a beginner. Downside: it’s slightly more expensive and doesn’t have the inline shape I was hoping for.
Which brings me to now. My finances have pinched down further (boo) which has brought in another option, namely the polycarbonate Mountain Ocarina. They’re inline (yay), the sound is good and they’re inexpensive. The big sticking point is pure fussiness on my part as I really want an ocarina made out of a natural materiel.
I’ve stuck a Mountain ocarina on my list to Santa this year (i don’t want to bankrupt the guy). If he comes up dry I’ll probably end up contemplating the possibilities for another ten months before making a decision.
