The steps toward achieving your dreams are just as important as the dreams.

i totally agree

working on that right now! sometimes it’s hard and I’ve been pretty anxious and distracted lately, but the core of it feels right…

I've actually...

...been thinking about this a lot lately. The idea of wanting something and yet being reluctant to do what it takes to actually achieve that thing. I’m hoping to write a lengthier blog post about this soon, but the conclusion that I’ve come to is that the true dreams and desires that we have, those that resonate with us on our deepest level, our true-self, are the the things that we honestly want to do from start to finish (not that there aren’t moments of doubt or moments when it’s not fun, but these are things that we would truly enjoy following wherever they might lead). The things that we “want” to do but don’t really want to take the steps to complete are simply things that arise from our egos. We want to be the kind of person that does that or has done that or we want to be recognized for doing that or we want have *those things8… but the desire is for the end result and not for the path. Those things have more to do with how we would like to be seen or are avoidance behavior so we don’t have to deal with our true dreams. Mostly it comes down to fear, pride, and ego.

totally,

and after today, it makes all the more sense – one door closes, and a window opens, right?

i just made jalapenos en escabeche, by the way…I tend to cook as a means of coping _

There is this idea...

...in Masonic thought (I have to be somewhat vague in how I describe this, sorry) that whatever it is that we need is what is there. So when we look around and can’t find what we “need” then either we aren’t looking hard enough or we are mistaken about what it really is that we need (this line of thought isn’t completely unique to Masonic, thought, of course, it’s just that is where I have the most experience with thinking/dealing with this thought). Coelho sort of talks about this, too, when he talks about how we are supposed to follow the signs and omens in our lives.

I’ve never made jalapeƱos en escabeche before. How did they turn out? Were they hard to make? I find cooking very therapeutic, as well. :)

not really...

actually i was struck by how easy they were to make! You just clean the peppers and cut the carrots and onion, and then fry them for a bit, and then boil them in whatever vinegar mixture you choose to use. I chose not to can them and instead just refrigerated them. 2 pounds of peppers were gone in a matter of days!

Next time I would definitely use a different type of vinegar; apple cider vinegar was too sweet. If you try to make them though I would recommend adding garlic cloves, very tasty. Also, the flavor improves with age (even 1-2 days of aging).

yay for food therapy! I’m going over to my friend’s house to make spinach pie with her soon

Josh has gotten 6 cheers on this entry.
