Book 1: My Family and Other Disasters

by Lucy Mangan

A series of Columns from the Guardian writer.

Good read, and funny, but after a while becomes repetitive and the over the top ways of expressing herself grate a little.

The most hard to read all the way through section was the one dedicated to TV. The very fact it was all quite monotonous and about the same subject grtated a little.

But I think it’s a book that needed to be dipped into rather than read all in one go.

Annoyed that when I researched her online I found she was proposed to by her boyfriend in New York, rather poo-pooing her random rants about people who leave the country and go on holidays. Whereas she prefers home-vacations. She probably plays up a certain persona in these columns. The Daily Mail article (written by herself) was definitely in a different voice, and lost any wit or spark because of it.

Anyway next Xmas book for next week…New Finnish Grammar
