eat more healthily (read all 6 entries…)
oh.

Hmmm. How to admit this? I have hardly eaten a healthy thing this working week! It’s been snowing and is absolutely freezing outside and inside, and I’ve been in hibernation/face-stuffing mode. I also made the mistake of going shopping while hungry and coming back home with a bag full of absolute nonsense.

The only thing I’ve done right this week is cut back my coffee intake to one cup a day and reintroduce green tea. I hate tea of any description but green tea has so many health benefits that I’m just going to have to drink it. I’ve stopped trying to “acquire” a taste for it and started to think of it as purely medicinal. For some insane reason that is really helping :)

Today’s shopping bag is brimming with all the fresh ingredients to make myself vats of lentil & vegetable soup. Hopefully that will set me on the right track again. I don’t think that it can be coincidence that my mood has plummeted as my diet has worsened.

I don't

Think it’s coincidence, either. I find my mood is low and depressed when I have spent time indulging in junk….Not fair!!:-)

On Green Tea...

It is great that you are focusing on your wellness through nutrition. I don’t have any desire to give up morning coffee – I truly enjoy the taste and ritual. To that end, I purposely avoid caffeine/coffee nutrition chatter – too many arguments on both sides. However, I drink a lot of tea and I enjoy it – and the ritual of it. I recommend a teapot – it will make any cup of tea an enjoyable moment. But, I am rambling. What I wanted to suggest about green tea – is to try fresher green tea. If you can find some loose green tea at an oriental market or order some on-line, you might enjoy it more. There is a flavor difference. Most of the bagged green teas in the supermarket taste stale. I hope you are able to find some sort of tea to enjoy.

So helpful to know...

...and really timely about the teapot. Yesterday I was bemoaning the fact that I have to really, really scrub at the tea stains from my cup before drinking my usual cups of hot water for the rest of the day (I’m at work so have to use the same cup) so I’m definitely going to get a little one cup pot (a pretty one). Re the loose leaf green tea, I will definitely give this a try as I really would like to get to enjoy the taste if possible. I’m really interested in what you said about the ritual of drinking tea, even though I’ve never liked tea myself there is nothing as relaxing and welcoming than the sights and sounds of someone brewing and pouring a steaming hot cuppa. I’d love to adopt this idea – but at the moment the only ritual my tea-drinking involves is pinching my nose, throwing it down my neck and shuddering! Not the best way to start the day! Thanks so much for your ideas :)

Oh - another thought

I just brewed a pot of green tea – and I thought of you. It took me a while to learn how to brew green tea – I threw out a lot of it because it tasted like ear wax. That happens if you over brew it by steeping it too long or using water that is too hot. It is really bad if it is over-brewed.
I hope you find something that you enjoy – I drink hot water like you do. Sometimes that is just what I want. And, sometimes I put small slices of lemon and ginger in hot water to sip on.
