Learn lucid dreaming
I tried this once.

But I didn’t have the patience to stick to it. One of the things you’re supposed to do is write a dream journal. It’s supposed to help you train your mind to remember your dreams, and to help you figure out IF you ARE dreaming.

I’ve been having some REALLY odd dreams lately, but keeping a journal is quite difficult. I’ve put a pen and writing pad on my headboard, so I can write them down as soon as I wake up. However, there are two problems:

1. I can’t seem to wake up enough to remember that I’m supposed to be writing down what happened in my dream(s) as I come out of the fog of sleepiness.

2. I can’t just grab the pad and pen and start writing anyway. I need to put on my glasses, get out of bed, turn on a light, grab the pad and pen and start writing. And all that effort just ain’t happenin’ when you’ve woken up from a dream at 2:00AM.

Perhaps you could try buying a little voice recorder to record your dreams when you wake up. Sometimes it’s easier and quicker to rattle off the dream details verbally than it would be to write, anyway.

FWIW, I learned lucid dreaming and I never did an official dream journal, though I did keep a diary at the time that I wrote in, in bed, every night. But I rarely wrote about my dreams in the morning, unless it was a particularly vivid nightmare or something.

Just the act of being conscious about wanting to dream lucidly can be enough to help you learn to do it. Also, I do recommend learning to surf that alpha state just between dreaming and sleeping as you fall asleep and as you wake up. That time when you still are almost dreaming, but are also partially aware of lying in bed.

Not a bad idea!

I thought about using the voice recorder function in my iPhone, but figured that would be too complex to figure out when I’m still trying to wake up. I’d end up sleep-dialing someone.

But perhaps a simple recorder with a simple button to push is the way to go. I’ll think about that.

Brian has gotten 5 cheers on this entry.
