A tough day...

Today was my 19 year old nephews funeral… 1 month before the 13th anniversary of his mother’s passing at age 29…

For the past week I’ve tried to stay in denial, but it really hit home at the funeral – duh!

You’re right. The memories are special.

There was a funny story shared at the service when his stepdad took him on holiday to meet his birth dad after his mum died. A lady at the hotel where they were staying was shocked when she learnt he was on holiday with his 2 dads… :-)

I know sorry does not help and we all go through loss of some kind. My mom died in 96’ of pancreas cancer. We knew she was dying. In 05’ my younger brother committed suicide. Three months late my dad died. He had the flu and was so week he fell going to the bathroom. He lay on the floor for hours before anyone found him, and then when they did they helped him walk to a chair at his assisting them to move him. He had a broken femur, broken hip bone and another broken bone. He died in the hospital the next morning. The point of all this is that weather you know someone is dying or they suddenly die it is never easy. Perhaps this is a wake up call to apprciate the others around you. At any rate, my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you. All these years later I still get bad days from time to time. Just keep the love and faith and remember how important you are to all those around you, so try and not let it get the best of you!

Same day I wrote to Tony trying to make him feel better...

I sent a few notes like that on postcrossing as well. I wanted to make others feel better, instead people were telling me how sorry they are for me. I think it back fired. Life is good, I am learning to appreciate that I wake up and have a new day. Thanks for your kind words!

It helps

to know that others get through it too.

It’s hard to see the light through the darkness sometimes, so it helps when someone is able to hold a light fo you… (I hope that makes sense – I know what I mean anyway) :-)
