find happiness (read all 8 entries…)

Worth doing!

The possibilities opening up...  — 2 years ago

for this summer may make me able to complete this at some time…and I expected this goal to live forever in the incomplete column…

Comments:

Happiness is there,
you just have to choose to be happy.

Can you do that?

I’ve been trying for the last few months, but it doesn’t seem to work. I was beginning to subscribe to the Dennis Leary theory of happiness, that it’s fleeting – a bite of a cookie, a five second orgasm or a good joke, then it’s back to work.

Maybe you’re right (I hope you’re right), but I feel so overwhelmed by the sheer number and magnitude of the things I see as deeply wrong with the world, that it’s tough. Not only deeply wrong with the world, but pretty much on a downward trend for the past twenty years or so.

I read a theory that society, the progression and development of society, is cyclical – for years or decades society can improve (for the majority), and vice-versa. I keep looking for the cycle to begin trending upwards!

There is a plethora of books, articles, et al you can read / research about on happiness.

I believe that you can do it. Think about it…have you ever cried? Did you continue to think about negative things which in turn caused you to sob more and harder. However, you can distract yourself or cheer up—laugh and the tears are gone and you could talk to someone to resolve it.

I can’t remember the last time I cried, it must be ten years ago or more – maybe that’s the problem! :-)

I can cheer myself up, but it’s fleeting. I’ll spend time with friends, nice meal, good wine, good movie – all of those work. My concern is, that the next morning the problems are still there. I’m not worried about personal issues, it’s things I individually can’t do anything about – the US trampling Iraq and just about to trample Iran, the rise of asset and property rights at the expense of human rights, the deification of fianance capital and decline of social capital.

Those things don’t make me “unhappy”, but they definitely limit my ability to be happy. The internet is something which definitely helps – not only the first two-way mass communication device which is open for the masses to use, but an excellent way to connect to like minds.

At this moment music is helping! And the fact that it’s Friday!

Yeah, those two things tend to help.

Hm, I don’t know what to say about things you cannot truly control. Accept, faciliate, pray? :]

Realize how good it is when those problems aren’t there. For example, when there is war think of how great it is when there isn’t any or when you have a physical pain remember how good it is when you don’t so when you don’t have it you feel better about it.

chococluster is bombarding himself with things french

very true! searching for it is half the battle though… acceptance is maybe a quarter.
