lots of good news in the e-mail box

My brother and I exchanged some more e-mails today. He is a great writer of letters, very descriptive, funny and entertaining. He mentioned that they are going to the Canadian Rockies next year & he might be able to get a stop over in my neck of the woods. I am so incredibly happy to have a brother who I like to exchange e-mails with. It brightens my work day no end.

As a bonus, my high school best friend wrote back to me in a timely manner. Just a nice chatty e-mail. She is moving in the next few months and mentioned that we will be closer to each other, so maybe we can get together.

More joy! :)

I am, too. It was a completely unexpected gift. My brother was such a mean person in his early years, but he has, amazingly, completely transformed himself.

my older brother

was pretty vicious as a preteen and teenager. Then he morphed into a generous, kind, spiritual person and then fell in love and even had a son in his early 40s who he dotes upon. Now, once in a great while, when I mention some of the cruel tricks he played years ago, most people refuse to believe, even after my brother admits to them. People really can change, you know. It hardly ever happens, but then someone does and it sort of blows you away.

I understand.

I think it interesting that you and I have done the opposite in a way. I kept my family close for a long, long time. It has been very freeing to walk away.

I don’t know if there’s healing available there, or not. Probably not as it depends on two people thinking you have a mutual goal. As far as they’re concerned, nothing has changed.

Anyway, I am GLAD and DELIGHTED for you! :D I hope it lasts, I hope it heals whatever scar tissue it can. And again, I applaud both your resilience and your capacity for forgiveness.
