The most dreaded task

The thing anybody working with computers dreads most is parents computers.

I managed to survive installing office and image processing software on my fathers laptop jumping the following hurdles
  • Getting my father to disconnect the laptop from its power line and setting it up in the living room so I could chat with him and my stepmother during installation
  • Installing the office software
  • Finding out that their preferred imaging software is out of production since 2004
  • Getting them to accept picasa

Whoa.
I’m tired now ;-)

joie de vivre here only intermittantly

For family members, it is often the most difficult and painful decision they will face

...to accept that a loved one — a parent, a spouse, perhaps a sibling — is technologically impaired and should no longer be allowed to live independently, or come near a computer or electronic device without direct supervision.
