Some unusual items from last night's izakaya

This first shot is basashi, also known as sakura (cherry blossom). It’s horse sashimi. The sliced raw horse meat is dipped in a combo of garlic, chopped chives and shoyu. See comments for more shots. (I forgot to take pictures of the lotus root salad, salmon egg sushi and assorted yakitori).

A thin omelet with more flour than egg with lots of chives and a dip sauce.

Nankotsu

That little piece of cartilage at the end of the chicken’s breast bone, breaded and deep fried. Squeeze a little lemon on them. Crunchy.

Egg cakes

They’re being steamed on this little table burner. Add grated daikon and a dash of shoyu to the top of each bite.

Agedashidofu

Deep fried tofu placed in a broth. A glob of grated ginger and shredded nori are added.

Avocado, tomato, lettuce, broccoli, egg, and special dressing.

Negitoromaki

Mashed raw tuna underbelly mixed with chopped long onion on top of nori sushi rolls.
