This weekend, I got the opportunity to go kayaking! Was a ton of fun, had a blast, and did it with some great company too :) I’ve gone canoeing a decent amount in the past and understood how basic paddling worked. It did take me a little bit to understand how to get into a rhythm with the proper strokes but I think I did well enough for my first outing! We started off in still waters and aimed along the river bank for thick overhanging tree branches, challenging ourselves to try and fit between and under as many different overhangs/squeezes as we could, trying to avoid getting stuck or being hit by branches. This little game was actually pretty fun, and it really got me to learn pretty quickly how to maneuver my kayak accurately! What a great idea from my counterpart! ;)
After some time, we headed along towards the rapids part of the river… during this trip my boyfriend wanted me to at least get a taste of what they’re like, and introduced me to the tamer rapids. He explained how to control my kayak by maintaining my own rhythm so the water wouldn’t control me. When I started heading in for my first rapids, I had a split second of thinking, “What the hell am I doing?”, staring down the rapids as I got closer. My goal for this year is to push myself and become more fearless to new experiences, so I just pushed my thoughts aside… I knew I would enjoy it, no point fearing it. And lo and behold, I went for it and loved it!! :)
Hoping to go again fairly soon, and aim for some bigger rapids next time!! ;)
