Correct my posture (read all 34 entries…)
After my last chiro appointment

approximately a month ago, I haven’t been back. My contract was up and I felt that he was pushing me to stay another year, which I don’t want to do. And can’t financially. He also said something that really irked me “You got a really good discount last time, so…” Which is true, but I certainly didn’t ask for it.

The other day I got a phone call from him on my mobile, then immediately hung up. Then he rang my mobile twice more, then the house phone and then sent me a text message. I found it really creepy and quite frankly, manipulative and uncomfortable.

He did make a huge difference to my posture, I’m not denying that. However, I don’t want to be forced into going to adjustments every week for the rest of my life! I need an alternative…

Exercise

So, in order to SUSTAIN your improved posture, you need to strengthen your muscles and improve your alignment and balance throughout your full body.

I HIGHLY suggest Tai Chi :)

Swimming laps, gentle yoga, etc are additional awesome ways of being present in your body and improving your over all well-being + posture :)

Also want to acknowledge that IS creepy that he was coming after you so strongly. Unprofessional and into the realm of pressuring stalker in my book!

I'm grateful to you both

for your advice-thank you!

I’m leaning towards looking into Tai Chi, the inversion tables look a little scary!! And it just so happens that the end of this month is World Tai Chi day-meaning a free lesson :)

If I could swim well, the swimming laps would be a brilliant idea. As it stands though, I struggle to do one lap let alone several. Gentle yoga I do every now and then, although I know I need to commit to it I struggle.

I’m glad that it wasn’t just me that thought it was creepy. Now it makes me uncomfortable every time my mobile rings :S

therapy pool

even just getting in a bath tub warm therapy pool and moving around, treading a little water, gently stretching, and slowly walking through the water can really help you relax, let go, build strength, and realign your posture.

In general our upper body compensates for the lower body’s habits and alignment. Focusing on ankle rotation and flexibility/responsiveness, stretching your cavles, opening up your adductors (inner thigh muslces) and Abductors (glutes etc) will help your pelvis find healthy sustainable alignment and give you a good foundation for the rest of your spine. Typically the other element of posture is that the pecs tighten up and we end up with forward rolled shoulders. Gentle restorative yoga postures for opening up your pecs and allowing your shoulders to slide back with gravity really help :)
