Wrote my first Wizzley article!

I have a passion for African Violets and so for my first article, I thought I’d write something that I know very well; getting the plants to bloom and stay in bloom. I submitted my article just a few minutes ago. I hope it gets published. Check it out if you have a minute!

Now....

Do you know how the heck I can get my Christmas cactus to bloom again lol!?

Lol!

They don`t call them Christmas cacti for nothing!

While I`ve never grown one myself (my mom has!), my understanding is that their blooming season is late fall through spring, but that you can coax them into blooming again.

Getting a Christmas cactus to bloom involves placing them in a closet from 6pm-6am for a period of 6-8 weeks. This stimulates the lengthening of the night around winter time. Once you start seeing buds forming, place in a well lit (no direct sunlight) area, away from drafts and water once the top layer of soil is dry. Hope that helps!

I think I know now why it hasn't been blooming

I have it in the same spot year round, and with our mild winters lately it hasn’t had any time to really go dormant. I’ll have to try again when I get back in the fall!
