Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Keep a house and yard journal (read all 34 entries…)
May 2012
May.25Adjusted the ball catch on the bathroom doors, but seems like I cannot adjust one any lower. The doors don’t seem perfectly straight either, but anyway, I’ll have to see if I decide to do anything else.
May.11Ran Mitsukaze in front and north of house, pulled small handful of weeds and a few oak tree saplings. Lots of the weeds seem dead, which is good. Unfortunately, with the weeds dead, there was no grass in those places either. Some parts of the yard look good, other parts of the yard look pretty barren but in general, can see grass trying to grow. Parts of the yard has yellowish looking grass. Might just be from the shock of the weed killer and hopefully not a new type of weed.
May.12Ran Mitsukaze in back and south of house. Edged and trimmed.
May.26Ran Mitsukaze in front and north side of house in front of gate. Did not really find weeds but pulled some oak saplings. Edged some in front, but the edger spool ran out, so I need to get a replacement. Found two ant beds in the front yard, one near the bushes in front of the garage and the other on the house side of the south oak.
May.27Got a replacement spool. Finished edging/trimming. Also, bought a soaker hose. Not sure if this will work as a strategy to revitalize the grass. May is supposed to be the wettest month in Dallas, but so far, it has rained only 3 times this year. It rained only 5 times last month (only 4 times if you only count where it rained more than 0.01”). Some of the grass looks fine, but about half of the yard is barren. Started pulling grass (and oak saplings) around the oak in the back. Why is it that the best growing grass is around the oak? The front is not quite as bad but still about 25% looks barren. (Everyone else’s lawns generally look ok, likely because they did not have such a bad problem with weeds over the winter.)

Mom’s Condo
May.13Mom’s tankless water heater is no longer working. Standby light is on, but nothing seems to work. There doesn’t seem to be a reset button (on the outside of the unit). Opening the unit voids the warranty. I tried to shut off power through the fuse box, but restarting the unit didn’t seem to help.
May.14Called American Heat and they are located in Hialeah, FL. We can drop the unit by and they will repair it.
May.15Disconnected the tankless water heater.
May.16Took the tankless water heater to American Heat. He was actually able to figure out what’s wrong and replace the defective part while I waited. Saved me another trip to go there… which despite having GPS, I got lost getting there and coming back. I hooked it back up and my mom has hot water again.

Leezel is back from a 2-month hiatus!

Wow, what a great list! It looks like you’ve gotten a lot done! Keep adding those entries!

(I really hate lack of e-mail notification…)

I really need journals in all aspects of my life to remember when I did something, whether it works or not, when was the last time I did something, etc. If only I had a journal for my entire life! But better late than never…

jimrin has gotten 19 cheers on this entry.
