Friday and Saturday Hikes

Friday Hike
I convinced Mr. Wren to go with Becca, Elbee & I after work. Both Mr. Wren & I have some yucky virus, so we didn’t feel much like hiking, but I thought it would be good for us.

We hiked to Spring Creek and back, which is a pretty easy hike. One of the many reasons I enjoy hiking with Mr. Wren is that he walks faster than I do, so I am always pushing myself a little to keep up with him.

Total time: 60 minutes. Max heart rate: 141. Average heart rate: 116. Total calories burned: 742.

Saturday

Becca, Elbee & I hit the trails at 6:30 a.m. today. We climbed to the top of Burnt Ridge, around the back of the Aquaduct Trail, up the Old Mine Road, down Dutchman’s Way, and down some more on Donkey Ridge. Putting all those trails together made for a nice interval workout. After hiking all winter in snow and ice, walking on dry ground feels wonderfully easy.

I enjoy being out in the early morning hours. I love the sounds of birds trilling and breezes in my ears, and I love the early morning light. The first flowers are starting to poke out, alpine wildflowers in all different colors, and the oak trees are starting to leaf out.

Although it was early, we encountered a surprising number of people on the trails, mostly mountain bikers.

Total time: 75 minutes. Max heart rate: 139. Average heart rate: 116. Total calories burned: 946.
