Post things I’d rather my fellow 43T’ers didn’t know about me (read all 9 entries…)
Embarrassing entry number 1

I deloused.

A year and a half ago our family got hit with lice. I had a rather mild case, since I have so little hair but the rest of the family was not quite as fortunate. We had to go through 2 treatments on successive weekends to get rid of all the nasty little guys. We did find the cheaper lice kits did not work nearly as well as the name brand versions. We also saw that many of the stores were out of their delousing products. Grand Rapids had quite a large, but silent epidemic. Several times I’ve gone to the local pharmacies I have noted how stocked their shelves are to see how paranoid I should be.

.

My old hairdresser once told me that washing the hair with a mixture of simple white vinegar and water is helping, too. You only need the comb to get rid of the eggs and the vinegar (it seems that it’ll make the lice explode?!).
Maybe that’s an alternative to stocking up those expensive products?

How come white vinegar

is somehow an ingredient of every grandma’s remedy in the world from cleaning pipes to homemade cure for leprosy ?This stuff’s like magic potion.

.

It is fantastic stuff!

Along with lemons and baking soda, you barely need much else to run your household. ;)

....But it’s the smell that makes mme prefering other products here and there.

I did use vinegar too.

it makes the glue on the eggs weak and they slide off easier.

I hope I don’t get lice again, but I’m not washing my hair with vinegar for the rest of my life either.

The kits range from $13 to $20. They aren’t that expensive, but the good ones make the eggs come off easier and the hair smoother. The higher price is easily worth the saving of time and effort.
