According to this site here: http://testyourvocab.com/ my result is a little above the average foreigner who takes the test :)
But native speakers of English fall in the range 20,000–35,000 words so I know only a half of it ;)

28 000 words sounds to me like a whole galaxy from where I am right now T.T
I certainly “haven’t mastered” the words – I merely understand them. The test measures the passive vocabulary, I am not sure how many words I could actually use (writing, speaking).
But I am inclined to take this test again in a year or two and see what changed.

I know 30,700 words. (And I take issue with the word “leitmotiv” being included – that’s a German word!) English is my native language and I consider myself VERY well read, so for you to have a working vocabulary of 10,000 is pretty awesome. Especially considering how little crossover there is between Polish and English!
I cannot imagine knowing so many words… I guess I will never reach the number above 25 000…
It’s not so impressive to know 10 000 words considering the time I’ve spent learning English. I’ve been doing it for more than 10 years (not regularly), and I think I should be able to perform much better. But maybe I should cross out all the years I learnt English at school because it was nothing but a waste of time.

Not sure… is just a bit more than 1.000 words. Probably, in practice, is not a very big difference.
