Rachel Not sure why I have 21 subscribers when all I post are to-do lists.
The very first 5-year plan that I wrote when I graduated high school is now up. (I did most of it, I think.) I’m about to start grad school, and will be there for the next 5 years (at least). But what else do I want to accomplish in that time?
School- be close to graduating
- bump my retirement savings up to at least 10% of my (post-tax) income each month (currently I’m at around 3.5%) – It will stay at this level through at least fall semester. If, after a couple months, I see that I have room in my budget, I’ll bump it up to around 7%. If I get summer research funding, I should be able to bump it up again. After that, my income is really not going to change throughout the rest of my program so hopefully it’ll be enough.
- maintain an emergency fund of 3 months’ expenses
- have a rolling travel fund
- start saving for a house
- marathon by 26 (half-marathon this fall or next spring)
- run a 10-minute mile – 11:00 by mid-2013, 10:30 by mid-2014, 10:00 by mid-2015
- achieve & maintain a sub-170 weight
- get sterilized
- volunteer at least once a month
- participate in fundraising efforts (most likely through races)
- join the bone marrow registry – around the end of 2013/beginning of 2014
- donate blood at least yearly
- go to Canada and at least one other country (likely somewhere in Asia) – Canada by the end of 2013 hopefully
- visit Yellowstone – also 2013
- hit at least two more US states (right now I’m rooting for South Dakota)
