Comment on old posts while 43T is broken and see if people notice them (read all 3 entries…)
Ongoing

Every week or so I go and find 20 to 30 people that I haven’t commented on lately and make comments to them, often on old goals to spur them to work on them. With the email server clogged at the Robot Coop, many of these people will never find these messages. I hope they do though.

Insider information...

You probably have said before, but I have checked the Robot Co-op official blog which is now labeled ‘old blog’ and haven’t seen any recent updates. Where are you getting your information about the email server problems and other insights?

As a programmer I am always studying what is going on around me and I am curious what your source(s) is/are.

Experience

Having been here forever, I’ve encountered this issue before. At times it has been just a problem with one domain (like YahooMail) blocking the emails, and at others it’s been a problem on their mail server end. Because I’ve worked on troubleshooting problems with the Robots before, I’ve done some initial troubleshooting to determine the problem is on their end and informed them of my findings. I’ve met most to the Robots in person, so they sometimes share more details with me offline about issues than what they publicly share, which is why I suspect their mail server is clogged since that’s what it was when this happened the first time a few years back.

Robot Coop Clarified

You are quite the worker bee Todd. Thanks for your help. I will have to remind myself to canvass your opinion when some of these quirky 43things behaviors occur that tax my patience. I usually can figure it out myself after some trial and error, but if I can adjust the learning curve it would be most helpful.

And just a follow up to an earlier post you had. Were the mass account deletions just users who had goals/entries but were dormant? Or was it just accounts created that were otherwise empty or deleted but not compacted, and so forth?

Mass Exodus

The Robots understand from back when they did their first purge in year one that some people’s accounts go dormant, but they shouldn’t be purged because people do come back (except for those who have actually died and whose accounts we treat as tributes).

The Robots try to develop algorithms that will get rid of just the accounts that were created by spambots but sometimes a good user gets caught by them accidentally.

Thanks

for this useful update, Todd. Let’s hope normality will be resumed soon!

Cheer!

Donna getting ducks in a row

Hi Todd, I wonder...

...are we running out of space (or need more space) with all the content here?

I feel guilty because I’ve been adding more photos than ever before now that I discovered the joy of doing that (scavenger hunt photo entries, adding to my daily gratitude entries).

Do you think the financial state of 43T is at risk?

Todd, thanks for sharing what you’ve learned over the years (with the ‘bots and otherwise).

No Worries

The Robots upgraded the servers to deal with the space issues, so you don’t have to worry. 43Things is still making money. 43People wasn’t making any money which is why it’s now gone.

I know the Robots don’t want donations and don’t want me to encourage you to click on the occasional ad that pops up on the side of the page (even though that’s where a lot of the income comes from). When the Robots are asked what we can do to help them keep their income they say we need to use the site, making entries and goals, commenting to other people, and cheering them. It’s by utilizing the site and spurring traffic that we can help them gain new users and thereby more traffic.

Todd Schoonover has gotten 22 cheers on this entry.
