it’s a fluke, and to do with what programmes yo see. It doesn’t seem to me that it’s a regular occurrence on the news or TV. Quite on the contrary.

Can’t say it’s ever anything I’ve noticed – maybe I’m just watching mostly American tv ;) One thought, maybe, is that not so very long ago there was a great deal of genuine bomb threats from the IRA, so maybe it’s a hangover from that?

... in the 70’s -80’s in London. There was even one in my school & we got evacuated (very exciting!) Most of them tended to be false alarms but occasionally there would be explosions & deaths. I think there are a lot less now because of technology.m ost of London is on camera all the time….. although we had some suicide bombings in 2005 that killed 60 people.
The bomb squad are just part of the army.

the references to Scottish “penny-pinching.” That’s not a stereotype associated with Scots here, so it had to be explained to me. I would hear it on old British sitcoms occasionally.
