but never got around to it.
I’d really like to volunteer at the library after we move. I know libraries are able to accomplish much because of their volunteers…in addition to great staff. It’d be nice to help.

I do this once a week at my son’s school and I love it! I mostly shelve books, but I also do special projects as needed. The librarians are so appreciative!

aswedishlime, you couldn’t be more correct about this.
I’m a library technician in a mid-sized public library, we absolutely rely on and cherish our volunteers.
The most basic thing is shelf reading, where spine labels are read to make sure they are in Alpha order or in Dewey order. This is so important because books can be lost for years within a large collection if this isn’t done.
We also have volunteers research donated titles in the catalogue for duplicate copies. We are able to clean up our collection and keep our costs down.
These are just two of the tasks that volunteers help us with and are vital to the function of our facility.
Volunteering also led to my career choice.
So yes, yes, volunteer! It’s so much fun.
