I adore that song.
I heard it a few months ago before it was popular and fell in love with it. (The original, not the crappy remix) Probably a mixture of the marimba and the 80s Sting-like voice he has.
It reminds me very much of someone in particular, and every time I hear it I think that it’s the two of us singing it to one another. If I knew anyone who still talked to him, I’d be curious to know if he thought the same thing when he heard it; but I’ll never know.

That is the same song. That little tinkly instrumental bit that plays a few times in the song is the Baa baa black sheep bit. You can sing ‘Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool.’ It fits perfectly and it’s almost the same notes. Try it!

It was someone I dated for about 2 and a half years.
When he broke up with me, he just quit speaking to me, period. I felt like I didn’t see it coming. I thought we were happy, and had plans for the future, and I guess he was just going along with it until he graduated from university and was ready to move on.
He wouldn’t return my calls, nothing. A couple of weeks later he passed me on the street, and wouldn’t even look at me. Like I was a stranger, and hadn’t been sleeping with him for over two years.
That’s how I felt. I was just someone he used to know.

Yesterday when I was out, I heard a bit of ‘Somebody that I used to know’ playing, and it was funny timing because that was the day a so-called friend had text me saying he wanted me to leave him alone. We fell out and made up few times before (he fickle like that), but it was still kind of fitting because he was basically being immature, I hadn’t done anything for him to be mad at me – but whatever.
Didn’t this time, but what I maybe would do is listen to the song fully and maybe sing it to myself, but probably not sing it to them.
