I have my third on the water session Thursday! My friend’s been travelling and hasn’t done many of the classes with me, and although it’d be more fun to sail with someone I know, I already like it.

My first lesson at the tiller was frightening for anyone on the boat with me! By the second I started getting the hang of it. Who knows how pro I’ll be by this week!

What I will say is that I’m skeptical about a lot of the people I’m meeting sailing. My diving let me meet some great people. However, a lot of people sailing seem to have a bit of money, typical church-goers, white-picket fence lives and seem to assume everyone is similar. I know there are many types of people who sailing attracts- obviously it is expensive to get into, so it would attract a certain crowd (although diving is too, and I’ve seen less of that).

Me? I’m not rich or even close, I just like being on the water and can see me renting a boat on occasion- I’d love to own one, but that is not happening any time soon. I wish I had a few more friends or people I was close to doing this with me, it’d probably be a bit more fun/relaxing socially instead of just being a fun activity.
I’ll take people out and maybe get them into it from there. And who knows who I might meet if I keep this up? Could be I just found a certain sampling. Besides, they are perfectly nice to me, just not exactly my preference and I don’t have much to contribute to conversation.
