...for the 33rd time.
Yes, for the 33rd time, they went through this exercise, even though they knew it would only be a symbolic gesture… again.
Perhaps it’s ok to do symbolic gestures…? Well, you also have to consider what is the cost of doing these symbolic gestures. Per the referenced article, an estimate is for each working day in Congress costs approximately $2,000,000.00.
This means Republicans have spent about $60,000,000.00 on 33 repeals of the Affordable Care Act.
This seems well spent since I cannot think of anything better for which the US to spend a spare $60,000,000.00.
This is somehow ironic considering the reason the Republicans can do this is because they have the majority in the House and control what to is brought to the House floor. The reason they have a majority are the seats they won through Tea Party supporters who want a smaller, less “wasteful” government. Yes, this is your tax dollars at work. Assuming Obama is re-elected, you can expect more wasteful spending by the House as long as the Republicans keep the majority.
Just for kicks, I also included a Vanity Fair article which per their estimates points to the House spending approximately $1.1M to read the Constitution on the House floor in 2011.
Breaking: And speaking of the Republican majority, it seems House speaker John Boehner is contributing $4.1 million to his fellow Republican campaigns. Too bad us regular folks don’t have a spare $4 million to help influence the outcome of the elections…

And speaking of Republicans and healthcare:
