Attitude of Gratitude: Make Note of 3 Gratefuls & 3 Did Wells Each Day (43T) (read all 181 entries…)
7/18/12

I am grateful:
- To Mr. Wren for decluttering and organizing the kitchen shelves.
- For freedom from humidity.
- To have my own cozy office.

I did these things well:
- Shared interesting info about clinical trials results with colleagues.
- Shared interesting info about a new NIH grant with colleagues.
- Scheduled time off so I can be with Mr. Wren through his surgery and hospitalization without distractions from work.

Best wishes

to you and Mr. Wren for his impending surgery! I hope all goes smoothly and that he has a speedy recovery!

thank you,

very much! I’m going to take the best care of him that I can. :)

I'm sure you'll do a great job!

Please feel free to ignore these ideas, but I thought I’d share the sorts of things I appreciated having (or wanted) when I was in hospital, just in case it might help you and Mr. Wren! =)

- A friend of mine gave me a pair of cheerful/silly slippers and even though I don’t normally wear slippers, they were really nice to have for loo visits. Otherwise I would have been shuffling around in my socks or with my shoes partially slipped on, which is fine, but not nearly as cosy!

- I was told to leave all my valuables at home (or if you’re there, you can be the safekeeper) as it’s nice not having to worry about a watch/ring/necklace, or whatever may have sentimental value, going missing.

- This probably depends on whether knowing the time would help or make Mr. Wren more antsy, but there was no clock in my line of sight from my hospital bed, so I would have liked something nearby to tell me the time.

- That first moment you wake up is always disorienting because you may not remember where you are, so having some reminder of home/loved one(s) nearby is nice.

He’s very lucky to have you there looking after him! I’ll be thinking of you two!

I really appreciate your advice.

Thank you! I never would have thought of those things.

I am planning to find a book or magazine so that I can read to him.

having just had a short stint in the hospital as well

I must say that having my daughter there, reading silly, fun facts out of a magazine was a great distraction. I think she picked up a Cosmopolitan, perhaps not the best for Mr Wren (But it could be interesting none the less as a humorous distraction for both of you.) maybe a Men’s Health, they do have some rather interesting little tidbits in there.

That's a great idea!

I did the same for my father-in-law when he was in hospital (and updated him with all the sports scores and such from the sports section of the paper). We also brought along some of his favourite music (with headphones) for him to listen to and pass the time when we couldn’t be there with him.

Mr. Wren is going to feel so well looked after, I’m sure!! xxxxx

Thinking of you...

wishing Mr. Wren the best of health and you the best of caretaking experiences.

thank you!

I’m just so grateful that this was found before it turned into something really bad (I hope), and I’m also really, really grateful to have health insurance.
