Back in the saddle hike

After yesterday’s unhappy hiking experience, I got up early and was on the trail by 6:00 a.m. Becca, Elbee & I climbed the top of Burnt Ridge and then ran back down. We didn’t encounter a single person, which is exactly what I wanted. Not a long hike or a difficult one, but it was nice to be outside in the cool morning air. Running is getting easier, and now I’m adding in some uphill running.

Total time: 65 minutes. Max heart rate: 138. Average heart rate: 118. Total calories burned: 765.

So glad

you got back in the saddle. So sorry for your bad experience!

Thanks, RW!

It really helps to discuss it with other people who confirm that this guy’s bullying was out of line. I’m working on reminding myself that this is the only time I’ve had such an experience during the thousands of hikes I’ve taken with my dogs. A friend also suggested that I resume carrying my mace & cell phone when I’m out there alone, and I probably will.

Adar Gone fishin'.

It sounds to me...

like he was totally freaked out (by being outdoors? by something he was hearing on his phone? by something else?) long before he encountered your dogs, and he just went over the edge. You did the right thing in leashing them and pacifying him.
