I’m really glad we have some more testosterone in the neighborhood these days. Women are bitches. (Not ALL, that’d be a terrible generalization to make, but the ones here are.) Yesterday the one woman I hang out with sometimes (she’s 42) totally went off on me at work. I’m not sure why, but she was saying that I need to “let it go” referring to something that’s been bothering me at work. It’s none of her business, so I don’t know why she was getting all stressed and angry about it. UGH. I also realized a long time ago that she’s probably one of the most fake people I’ve ever met, but with such a tiny community here she was one of the few people to hang out with. The other women are 42 (an older, more mature 42) and maybe late-50s, so they all get together and exclude the 26 year old (me). Whatever.
So I’m glad to have some guys around who are DRAMA FREE. One is 26 (the lizard guy from earlier posts) and he’s pretty wonderful. Admittedly I’m kind of into him. Two nights ago there was an AMAZING storm and we sat in his living room with the lights off watching the lighting for hours. Talked about life, he played his mandolin, even drove me home because there was still a lot of lightning. I’m not sure if he’s into me, but I suppose it doesn’t matter since he’s just really nice to spend time with.
Another guy just moved in next door. Kind of young, only 22, but seems like a nice kid. Yesterday he left a note on my door about where he was going exploring and ended with a quote by one of my favorite writers. (Which caused me to pace around and say “hmmm…” quite bit.) Last night he knocked on my door because the sunset was INCREDIBLE and we scrambled up the rocks behind the houses to watch it. This was maybe right after 8pm and we sat up on the rocks talking and watching distant lightning and shooting stars until 11:30.
I finally got to talk to my traveling friend in Germany yesterday, too. He was so happy to see me online and though he couldn’t talk too long as he had company, we made plans to catch up this week. It’s always so nice to have someone so happy to chat with you!
I guess I’ve always gotten along better with guys or had more meaningful (strictly platonic) relationships with them. I like being able to have conversations at face value without the other person constantly analyzing nuances and inevitably taking things the wrong way like my female coworker did yesterday. I also like that there’s no competition. The new kid has said several times that he’s looking forward to learning the job from me and he’s asked really thoughtful questions about my opinions, particularly on the archaeology here. Whereas some of the women are SO protective of their knowledge that they won’t even talk about it. What?! How does that make any sense?
But I’m rambling now. I’m just glad there are some sane people to hang with now.
