APA

Throughout my undergraduate degree I used MLA citation style. But my graduate program often requires me to use APA style, and I’m finding it really difficult to learn. I’m currently using a smattering of citation taken from the library catalogue and an online guide, but I may as well learn how to use it properly.

I just missed a library workshop on using APA style, and there isn’t going to be another one! Too bad, it would have made this so much easier.

Comments:

Oh, I feel your pain!

I have to use APA – I struggled for a long time with why so much value was placed on a comma or a space. Now I just do as I’m told.
Here is a link to a great guide put out by an Australian university. I hope you find it helpful.

Endnote or Refworks

Any chance your library has Endnote or Refworks which allow you to input the information and it will format it for you automatically? I did APA manually for a loooong time and then got to do a couple of papers using Endnote. It was like, “Where have you been all my life?”

Refworks

Yes, I’ve been meaning to learn how to use Refworks now that I’m no longer using MLA very much, but I haven’t found the time to get to know the program. They have Refworks workshops at the university, so I plan on taking one this fall.

In the meantime, I’d like to get a good enough understanding of the basic rules of APA so that I don’t have to keep referring to various guides.
