Starting my own business as a CPR instructor.

I actually have started this business. I currently have it as a sole proprietorship. I am quickly moving out of that, however. I’m in the midst of changing it into an LLc. Why? you may ask. The answer :sole proprietorships leave you open to alot of personal liability. An LLc. gives you some protection against that. It separates the business from you in terms of liability. New York, I’m learning is a totally different creature than Georgia when it comes to this matter! In Georgia you simply go to an attorney and thay charge you around 400 dollars and you’re pretty much done. Not here in New York though!!!! While the actual LLc filing may not be that much, the publication costs will kill you! Most counties in the city area (Bronx,Manhattan, etc.) will run you upwards of over 1000 dollars. Unfortunately NY is one of those few states which are throw backs to that draconian and old practice of publication. To make matters worse, you do not pick which papers to publicize in. The court picks the paper(s) for you. Yes,I said papers. You have to run the legal ad in at least 2. From the looks of things I’d rather incorporate elsewhere. Suffice it to say, no matter wht,I will have my LLc.
