joie de vivre here only intermittantly
I had put up a notice for our AmeriCorps position everywhere two months ago.
I got a series of responses, ranging from not good at all to meh. Finally, there was one above the level of meh, and I hired this person.
Because her skill mix didn’t quite match the job description, I worked with the rest of the staff to reorganize their job descriptions, so we could then use her to our best advantage. Then, three weeks before she was to start, she quit.
I can’t blame her – she took a full-time permanent job, and all I had to offer was a temporary AmeriCorps position. But it really left us in the lurch.
So, I reposted the position again, all the same places. Added posting at the U (spending $10 to do so) and then to our existing volunteers. Silence. Then, I posted here.
Posting to 43things…well, it’s possible you’ll actually get a response from someone on 43things, but the way I look at it, it’s also like sending out a petition to the universe, too. Making a statement, this is something I really want.
Nearly immediately after posting here, someone applied for the position. This was not a meh person. This was someone with solid experience, who can really help us reach our goals. And she’s ready to start in September.
It’s not just an enormous relief, it’s like a downright miracle. I don’t know what I would have done otherwise.
So, I’m not marking this as done until she’s made it through all the federal processes, but I’m feeling like this is nearly done, and all is well in my world for now.
