Marry the man I love (read all 7 entries…)
Maybe I'm a jerk.

But seriously, who watches their wedding video every year on their anniversary, while eating a piece of the same kind of cake you had at your wedding? Is this weird and kind of creepy to anyone else? Like those middle-aged people who look at their high school yearbook all the time and talk about how amazing high school was.

(And before you go calling me a curmudgeon, I’d like to point out that this couple has been married for ten years. The husband found out not too long ago that his wife had been cheating on him for five of those years. Seems like whatever sentimentality this little ritual imparted was negligible.)

What might be hard to understand

is that it is possible to carry on a double life, and if you are good at compartmentalization, maybe a person can convincingly still celebrate anniversary rituals.

I agree that the celebration meant very little to ONE of them. I don’t otherwise find it overly creepy that a couple watches their wedding video each year while eating cake. If it was heartfelt, it’s just sweet. Lots of things seem odd to outside observers.

I feel very sad for the partner who was being mislead. Five years is a long time to be decieved, and it makes you feel worthless when you discover your partner’s been cheating.
