resist relapsing into depression (read all 5 entries…)
Ok, this is hard

It’s hard because some of the groups I join on facebook and twitter that are about helping people and animals border on the content that made me ill. Sometimes what they post is fine, and other times it comes too close to what I’m trying to avoid. Really, I want to help save the world, but without knowing all the gory details of how humans and animals are misttreated, because I just can’t deal with it…

tangerine_now Out of cheers, I am. Annoying, this is.

Hang on to what is right for you

and let go of what is wrong for you. It sounds simple but it can indeed be very hard. Hold on though! It’s worth it.

Ayanadnb <3 all is full of love

good for you

for facing things… my one thought… as both a therapist and someone in recovery… is that often the things that we are trying to avoid or escape are exactly the things we need to face to heal. start small, and eventually the thing you are trying to avoid wont seem so monumental.

im proud of you for knowing yourself, you can get through it :)

The Warrior Queen & The Jellied Eel I got my rock moves...

Hi there,

Fellow depression fighter here. I absolutely get this…in fact, in some ways I’m kinda glad you posted it…makes me feel less guilty about my recent decision….

Like you, I care passionately about ‘saving the world’ but when I’m in a bad place it makes me feel so, so much worse to get all these notifications of horrors being inflicted by people upon each other, animals, the planet; I’ve set my email filters to send all such emails to spam and I delete without reading. Not forever, but for now.

I used to work with a charity supporting homeless people; they would repeatedly tell us during end of shift ‘debriefing’ that we must acknowledge if we were suffering emotionally or mentally due to what we were dealing with, that charity begins at home and we are useless to the world if we don’t first take proper care of ourselves. It’s difficult to take this stance when there are so many suffering so much but there is truth in it.

Hope you find your balance with this; wishing you all the best.

Thankyou so much :)

The last but one paragraph, I’ve been told all that too! Right down to the the exact phrase ‘charity begins at home.’ I still don’t think I’ve completely grasped that but I’m on my way.

Like you, I’ve also blocked emails from several charities (Amnesty International being one of them; animal rights) that have sent me horrific stuff in the past.

I’m glad this post was of help to you and your comment has definitely cheered me a little :) Thankyou!
