Contemplate what it means to “love God”. I’ve been reading The Imitation of Christ to my high school students (I loooove not teaching in public schools!) and we’ve been discussing “love”, and how a lot of Christians get it backwards. Some seem to think that we can just conjure up feelings/emotions, and then we’ll want to act in certain ways. I think they’re beginning to understand that if we act in certain ways, that IS love, and then feelings naturally follow…which lead to it being really easy (relatively) to keep loving…. (I’m also in premarital counseling right now, and this is an apt lesson….;)

Where were you when I lived in L.A?
I think we would have been great friends. You think astonishingly like ME.
I suppose Bakersfield needs thinkers like us, too – which must be one of the reasons I was planted here.
How is the Premarital Counseling going, by the way? I hope it is going splendidly.
Haha- probably in the Central Valley
I moved up there for a bit because my family lives up there… moved back to LA to work full time at a university here.
Premarital counseling was excellent- we got married in June! :D
BTW, I lived about an hour north of Bakersfield. You’re right- the CV does need people who think like you (us!).

How surreal is this?
We must’ve been supposed to meet.
How often do you come across someone who wants to stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, someone who has, and two people who find taking pictures in grave yards to be cool?
And both in the Central Valley?
You must have been in Tulare or Visalia or something like that.
I am taking Greek now, by the way, so that I can read the New Testament in the original form and be sure those crazy translaters got it right.
And congrats on your wedding!! Great news!
Close...
My family is in Porterville, if you know where that is. Just a bit southwest of Tulare.
My friend Ben used to live on a family farm in the foothills and they had an old family cemetery out there; we stargazed there, told stories, watched sunsets… I’ve always found cemeteries to be beautiful. The pic above is in Pere Lachaise Cemeterry in Paris.
I’d love to take Greek; at the moment I’m attempting to learn Anglo-Saxon. :)

I’ve asked myself what exactly love is and how to do it. Knowing theories like that of Fromm actually didn’t help me with the question. Your approach sounds good and simple. Thanks :)
