One road trip,

Madison to Portland, will take care of most of muh list. I’d like to come back through the provinces now. Don’t know why I didn’t think of THAT earlier!

After that, only the destination states of Mississippi and Hawaii are left.

OK, starting with Portland...

as it’s the part I know best, it’s a young, arty, outdoorsy city, with probably the best bookstore in the world, amazing home-grown beer and wine, and lovely, quirky food, much of it eaten from…vans. Chill and informal. Get out into the state and you find the West as it was when Lewis & Clark hung out there – a dazzling variety of landscapes in any direction, from rocky coast to rainforest to salmon-filled rivers and mountains and deserts. Ghosts of cowboys and covered-wagon folk are never far from you.
