Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

FAQ
see a whale
Tromsö

So the last few days I have been getting my usual spring fever, travel itch…and by pure coincidence ended up reading about whales. Some of the biggest whales being Sperm Whales. I was reading about them and was imagining going to see an animal that big…I looked up where they are most commonly found and the nearest place is Tromsö in Norway. Rather than some place on the other side of the world. I have sent a few hours looking up prices of flights, trains, ferries… even found the cutest place I want to stay with in a reasonable budget.
The more I think about it, the more I want to do it, and I want to do it as an adventure!
I could tick quite a few goals off this list in one fell swoop – throw a message into the sea, see the northern lights, go fishing etc.
I am going to start saving, start planning and make this happen!

I did! :)

I text my best friend in the UK that very night I think, saved some money for two months, booked a train ticket and just went.
She flew to Sweden and we took a 26 hour train/bus ride to Tromsö and stayed in the cute bed and breakfast I fell in love with. Threw a message into the sea etc. We had an AMAZING holiday. Unfortunately the whales are around in March not June, but we still had the most incredible time, lots and lots of adventures. In fact I would say it was life changing, I came home, quit the job I hated, moved to a different town (something I wanted to do for years) and went back to school. It was so much fun we have booked more trips in the future, the next one is in three weeks ;)

This photo is of us swimming in the ofot fjord at one in the morning, 28th Hune 2012 taking in the midnight sun.

Sonne has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
