All my children are adults and I am very proud of them. They are not only successful but caring. I don’t know how much of it was my mothering and how much was dumb luck but they turned out great!
Comments:
I never worried that my kids wouldn’t be good people because I think mostly it’s just in them…but I worry sometimes that I’ve taught them how to survive and thrive out there. Sometimes nice people get steamrolled, ya know? So how to balance all that. This is the one topic that I know if I goofed up the kid raising I’d regret forever. Everything else is forgivable.
Kids learn from our example
I think that kids see how we handle difficult people and difficult situations. They learn from our example. You can be nice but not a door mat…treating people the way we wish we were treated is the best way, I feel, of breaking down a difficult person’s defenses. I also feel that if our kids know that they are loved – and that doesn’t mean that they get everything they want – they will become happy adults. And that’s all we can hope for.
