mejaka is on the preferred substitute list--for Project. Weird.
Pre-kayaking season has begun! I had a kayaking clinig last night and it was a BLAST!
I was very nervous going, as I’m really uncomfortable learning new things in the company of the proficient, and from the meetings I’d attended I had determined that I was by far the least experienced kayaker and possibly the most out-of-shape (read fattest!) in the group. (Turns out I was wrong about the second but probably not the first.)
Then I got there and there were four other women and two men. Todd (club pres and our teacher for the evening) put the men together, and the other four women were kind of teamed up already by friendships—and I ended up with TODD. Former-Coast-Guard, owned-his-own-Cape-Cod-kayak-tour-company Todd. I about died.
BUT – everything was way easier than I imagined. Well – challenging to my upper-body strength and my grumpy shoulder, but would you believe you really CAN climb into a kayak on your own when it’s floating in water over your head? I did everything on the first try (not everyone did) and had the added fun of having people drooling over my boat. :^ )
What’s more, I’m really starting to feel like I have people to boat with. Thursday nights all summer long. Full moon paddles. Fall foliage! I feel like part of a cohesive group, not just a person with a kayak among strangers with kayaks.
