Probably “Midnight’s Children”—even though I think “Shame” is a much better book, there’s something about a book written partially about childhood – in the same place where you grew up! – which always speaks to you somewhat intimately. I love how “Shame” jumps around between being a book on Pakistan, a book on a book on Pakistan, a book on religion and culture and people and even shame – all without skipping a beat. But I’ve only read those and “Ground Beneath Her Feet” (which I thought was cute), so I can’t wait to go find some more!

When he had the million dollar
bounty on his head was the first time I had heard of Salman Rushdie. Of course I had to run out and buy my copy of “Satanic Verses”.
I enjoy reading about different cultures.
“Midnight’s Children” just went on my must read list for this year.
