After removing walls, arches, built-ins and so forth, we are finally moving up, to the ceilings. They’ve been demoed (see photo) so they can be raised. Then the framing will go up, followed by prepwork for recessed lighting, skylights, insulation and drywall. It’s all very time consuming and challenging. At the same time, it’s amazing to experience the changes.

Wow!
We did something similar with our house. It’s a frustrating (taking longer than you’d like) but very rewarding experience. Are you living in the house at the same time they’re doing this?
I would say that when it comes to construction one has to micromanage everyone involved or it can get out of hand pretty quickly, both with money and time. More than half of the cost per square foot (up to $350 in L.A.) is labor, so it pays to stay on top of it.
And yes, I am currently living in my house while all the chaos of remodeling is happening so that I can make sure we are moving forward.
remodel or new construction
I just tuned into this project – exciting! Is this new construction? Sounds like you’re remodeling.
mejaka is on the preferred substitute list--for Project. Weird.
Wow, BIG project!
It looks like you know what you’re doing. I agree, anyone doing their own gen. contracting has to stay close to things, and it’s a tough balance between making the necessary noise to keep things moving, and not alienating subcontractors to the point that they lose their interest in building well.
Beautiful views!
